The East Akim Municipal District is a district of Ghana in the Eastern Region. It used to be a larger district in surface area. The Atiwa District was carved out of it in 2004.[1] In February 2008, it was one of the districts upgraded to municipal status by the Kufuor government.
Major towns in the municipality include Kukurantumi, Apedwa, Osiem, Old Tafo, Asiakwa, Asafo, Nkronso, Akim Apapam, Maase and Bunso.[2]
